Two weeks ago, I wrote two blog articles about the movies I’ve seen so far. If you missed them, you can read them here and here. I wrote about six movies in total. But as you can see on my list, I’ve already seen nine! If you’re curious about the remaining three movies, then read on!

The Interview
(seen on 28-12-2014)

Yes, this was the movie with all the controversy. The movie with the ‘forbidden’ scene. The movie that would not be released at all. But then it did. The whole world was ready for this must-have online purchase.

Was it all fake? Was all this controversy planned, just for publicity reasons? Or was Korea actually threatening Sony and the US all this time? I don’t know. All I know is that I saw the ‘forbidden’ scene and I was totally blown away. I had to see this movie.

It was epic. The harsh and brutal way the Korean government is depicted, combined with the almost slapstick-kind of humor of the main characters, makes it surreal. And that is exactly what this movie needs. A little bit light-heartedness to make up for all the drama and brutality, and a lot of self-mockery

Toy Story
(seen on 12-01-2015)

When I was young, I was completely addicted to the Disney movies ‘The Lion King’, Beauty and the Beast and ‘Aladdin’. I was mesmerized by the beautiful songs and touched by the love stories. A movie about a little toy guy and his toy friends didn’t seem so appealing at the time.

But now, years later, I became really curious about the movie ‘Toy Story’. I was told so many times that this was a great movie. Besides, i think we can count this movie as a classic now. After all, it was the first animated movie made by Pixar and the first computer animated movie ever. So, I decided to just give it a try. And I must say, I loved it immediately when I saw all these old school toys I used to play with when I was a kid. These nostalgic elements were only possible to exists because I watched it now instead of 20 years ago. Besides that, it really is a cool movie! I laughed a lot and I liked the storyline. Very simple, but nice nonetheless. I’m looking forward to seeing the sequels! Maybe I will even go watch Toy Story 4 in the theater.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
(seen on 14-01-2015)

I’ve heard some people and review sites state that this was the best movie of 2014. So I really wanted to see for myself! I must say, this movie is a great piece of art. I was especially impressed by all the inventive and creative camera angles. Also, often the actors would move completely in sync. Because of that it looked like a choreography. That is so cool, when do we ever see that in a movie?

The storyline was also very powerful. The movie is a complete flashback actually. In the very beginning of the movie, we get to see what has become of the main character. Because of that, I was dying to see what happened to him, what made him to be like this. There wasn’t a dull moment in the entire movie. I don’t know if it’s the best movie of last year (I just have seen too few to give my judgement), but it’s definitely worth watching!

Nine done, 92 more to go! Ehm… Woops, I better go see some movies!
